B. Craig Nelon, D.O.
Dr. B. Craig Nelon is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended Fort Worth Public Schools, and graduated from Eastern Hills High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University in 1975 prior to attending the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth. He is a board-certified family physician who earned his medical degree in 1982, then finished his post-doctorate training at Dallas Memorial Hospital in 1983.
After finishing his training, he co-founded Burleson Family Medical Center, P.A. where he has dedicated 25+ years to the medical needs of Johnson and surrounding counties. During the past 25 years, he has been an enthusiastic clinical associate professor of UNTHSC. He considers it an honor to help tutor and guide medical students, interns, and residents in experiencing family practice medicine first hand.
Dr. Nelon serves on staff at Huguley Memorial Medical Center, Plaza Hospital in Fort Worth and Walls Regional Medical Center in Cleburne. His professional association memberships include:

Dr. Nelon and his loving family have made their home in the Burleson-Johnson County area for 24 years. He and his wife, Annette, have been married for 27 years, and during that time they have raised two daughters and one son. Karli lives in Fort Worth with her husband, and is currently studying education at Texas Wesleyan University. Kaci is also a student of education and attends Hill College. Travis is a student athlete at Joshua High School. Annette has been a real estate agent in the Burleson area for eight years. Dr. Nelon has three granddaughters, Alexandra, Amelia and Londynn, which he loves to spoil.
Dr. Nelon’s life involves a strong Christian faith that helps to guide his daily life. Outside interests include supporting local community and school activities. His hobbies include antiques, and rebuilding old cars, trucks and tractors. He loves all animals, especially his horses, dogs, cats, and exotic birds. Dr. Nelon has been an avid bicyclist for years and hopes that his body can continue to endure for years to come.
William A. Thomas, Jr., D.O.
Dr. William A. Thomas, Jr. received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in 1978 and his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in 1982. He completed his training at Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital in 1983. He is board-certified in family practice by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
Dr. Thomas began his medical practice in Burleson, Texas when he co-founded Burleson Family Medical Center, P.A. He has continuously served the community for over 25 years. He has dedicated his career to meeting the medical needs of the citizens of Burleson and the surrounding area of Johnson County. Dr. Thomas is a great supporter of the many athletic programs in Burleson and is still active as the team physician for the Burleson Elks football team.
Dr. Thomas is a member, in good standing, of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice and the Johnson County Medical Society. He is on staff at Huguley Memorial Medical Center, Plaza Hospital in Fort Worth and Walls Regional Medical Center in Cleburne. He is particularly proud of his role as a clinical associate professor at the (UNTHSC). He takes pleasure in supervising the clinical training of medical students, interns and residents in his office. For many students, it is their first chance to get out of the classroom and experience medicine first hand. He enjoys meeting the new students and passing on his practical knowledge.
Dr. Thomas was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He resides in Crowley with his wife, Ilene. They have raised two children. Their daughter, Lindsey, graduated from Texas A&M University and is married and living in Houston. Their son, Andy, is currently attending Texas A&M. Dr. Thomas is an avid sportsman and enjoys traveling with his family.
Dr. Thomas receives satisfaction in taking care of all of his patients, young and old. He appreciates the trust that these patients have put in him and endeavors to make decisions about their medical care with the patient’s best interest at heart.
S. Katie Hutcheson, M.M.S., PA-C
Originally from Arlington, Katie graduated with honors from Clemson University in 2003. She attended graduate school at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. There she received a bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies with a Master of Arts degree in Medical Science. She joined the staff of Burleson Family Medical Center, P.A. in 2006.
Katie is an active member of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also a preceptor with the University of North Texas Physician Assistant Program. As a preceptor, she instructs student PA’s who come to the office. Under Katie’s direction, these students gain practical knowledge of what it’s like to work in a medical office.
Katie lives in Fort Worth with her husband Jeremy, and their two dogs, Jake and Woody. In her spare time, Katie enjoys outdoor activities such as traveling, running and skiing. She also enjoys participating in medical mission trips when available. Her most memorable trip was to Central America, where she helped provide medical care to the rural villages of Guatemala.
Katie’s favorite part of being a PA at Burleson Family Medical Center, P.A. is building relationships with her patients and the people of Burleson.
Julie Mayo, M.M.S., PA-C
Julie is a native Texan, born in Wichita Falls and attended school in the DFW area. Julie received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in 2000 and was a member of the Biological Honor Society. After graduation, she worked in medical sales before receiving her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona in 2006.
Julie is board-certified as a physician assistant with experience in family medicine and urgent care. She is a member of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. She enjoys participating in international medical mission trips. She has provided medical care to villages in Belize and is planning more trips to Belize in the future.
Julie and her husband reside in Mansfield, Texas with their two lovely daughters, Kaitlyn and McKenzie. Her husband, Matt Key, is a local musician and producer.
When asked what Julie likes most about working at Burleson Family Medical Center, P.A., she commented on the family atmosphere. Several of the employees have worked here for over 20 years and others for more than ten years. She states, "It truly feels like a family here."
